Question: Is it safe - putting all contact details on view in TradeSpace?

I have read on the internet that it is not a good idea to have your email address in text form on your business website as it invites automatic spamming, but to use a graphic as an email link instead. Also is it safe to have your phone number on view to everyone on the web, and your address as well? I would not want to be bombarded with weird phone calls and more junk mail.

Any advice please?

To comply with the general information requirements of the E-commerce Regulations 2002 you must give recipients of your online services:

"your business' name, geographic address and other contact details including your email address".

Hope this helps.

Hi all

Just to add a bit of clarification on the email address question. If you take a look at the exact wording of the directive it says :

"(c) the details of the service provider, including his electronic mail address, which make it possible to contact him rapidly and communicate with him in a direct and effective manner;" the full transcript can be readhere.

You may have noticed that when you set-up a Tradespace, we provide a contact us form instead of just allowing the email address to be added.

One reason for not publishing email addresses directly, is to cut down on the SPAM emails you might receive. Robots trawl the Internet looking for email addresses, so a contact us form is a great way to be contacted whilst reducing the possibility of being SPAMMED.

Hope that helps!

Thank you all, I wasn't aware of this legality. I have put my address on my contact page, but have provided an email link via a logo graphic next to it. Once the customer has sent me their details then we cant contact each other properly away from the website viewers.

Many thanks,
