Working Mums

Is your home coming down with unused, unwanted or outgrown baby items etc?  I have created a site for Northern Ireland Mums to advertise anything, join the free forums, online games and loads more.  I came up with this site idea when I was pregnant with Ethan, our 7 month old son.

or if you have cracked the secret and can afford to pay for others to do all the hard work, how did you get there and how long did it take.

do you sit in the dark over your keyboard late at night trying not to wake the baby.

i  would like to say it is nice to see a couple of new people joining the working mum's community. don't be shy let's see if we can get some interesting threads going to attract a few more interested parties,

i am not looking forward to working around the soon to come school summer holidays, i love spending time with my 3 little monkeys but juggling that with the shop etc is gonna be a challenge.

does anyone use child minders or have nannies/aupairs, and if so with what sort of results. i am thinking of getting a nanny but the thought rather scares me.

what do you all think

Hi Olivia

I'm with you on the school holidays! I'm getting by with annual leave and sharing responsibilities with local Mums and using playschemes! I know not everyone can take time off.

I know a couple of people who have employed a Nanny and I think there are pros and cons. You have a lot to deal with re employment / income tax etc but at least there is continuity of care.

I have used a Nursery over the last few years but have just found a local childminder to look after Ryan (4) as he starts school part time in September!

Hi

I am here too! Yes the whole thing is one big juggle from the minute we get kicked awake by whichever little one has snuck into our bed in the middle of the night - that may just be me but it happens all the time!

I have tried it all and all the solutions have worked for the time they were employed; nanny, nursery, live in nanny, nursery and aupair and now school/part time school and the nanny. I can give advice on them all if anyone wants any. Currently we have a nanny- she is excellent - my 3 childen are angels during the 3 days she is in their care. They just mess about before and after she goes! They love here and kiss and cuddle her when she goes. Most importantly they respect her and what she tells them to do. I don't contradict her. If I am home and they say mummy can I - I say ask Lorna she islooking after you today. I trust her and I see no evidence not to trusther. That is the difficulty finding someone good. It is also expensive admittedly but cheaper than 3 chidlren in nursery.

hi twinmum

still thinking hard about a nanny but don't know how flexible they can be. how did you go about finding a reliable and checked out already bomb proof nanny. i need one to be really flexible as my kids will all be at school come september but i need full time cover over holiday times usually. when you work for your self holidays just seem to pass you by. my husband has some time off but his holidays are limited too.

i guess i just need to bite the bullet and make a few enquiries with agents and see what comes up. i could get an aupair for £60 a week to live in as well so she could be an allround help with everything but i don't have a spare bedroom so that's out of the question.

i think i am also worried the kids are gonna be unhappy if it's not me doing the school run. we are so close i don't want to loose that.

ps if it's any consollation, my soon to be 5 little boy is still in my bed every night, i shouldn't worry if i were you. my sister's son stopped sleeping in her bed when he was 11 so we have hope yet LOL.

I WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED WITH THE NANNY DECISION, ALL ADVICE WOULD BE GREATFULLY RECIEVED.

Hi All,

Another working mum here!

I have 2 young children (3 and 19 months) and they are looked after by a childminder. They really enjoy their time there which is a huge relief. The hardest thing about choosing childcare is wanting your child to be happy, looked after and loved. I really wanted to know they'd be able to have cuddles etc as it is so important when they are tiny. Luckily they have plenty, my daughter gives big cuddles when she leaves, my son is normally running around with her son ;o)

Olivia - what did you decide in the end for your childcare?

Best wishes,

Amy
